Co Tyrone gold firm to consult community ahead of mining plans

by Jonathan Adams

Dalradian Gold has announced a pre-application community consultation process ahead of plans to mine for gold in Co Tyrone.

It has said the construction of the mine at Curraghinalt near Gortin could create around 500 jobs for the duration of the build.

The firm will submit a planning application for the mine this year.

According to Dalradian, surveys have shown there are more than four million ounces of gold in the ground.

The company will undertake the consultation in a bid to quell concerns about the impact the mine could have on the area.

Dalradian’s managing director, Brian Kelly, said: “In the past eight months alone we have consulted with over 500 people at community meetings, around kitchen tables and in farmyards.”
