Closure order for Newbury property

by Jonathan Adams

A closure order has been issued on a Newbury property linked with “years of intimidation” for residents.

Thames Valley Police requested the order following a series of anti-social behaviour and drug-related issues at the property in Dyson Close.

A partial closure order was granted by Reading Magistrates’ Court on November 24 and will be in place for three months. The order prohibits access to anyone other than authorised persons. The order followed a joint operation between Thames Valley Police, West Berkshire Council and Sovereign Housing.

Pc Peter Duffy said, “The residents living in and around Dyson Close have suffered years of anti-social behaviour and intimidation from people coming and going from the property.

“We have listened to residents’ concerns and taken positive action to protect them and the tenant.

“I hope all residents in Dyson Close can now live peacefully in their homes.”

Janice Saunders, Housing officer at Sovereign, said, “We take all forms of anti-social behaviour seriously and having worked with partner agencies to initially offer specialist advice and support, we then supported Thames Valley Police in their legal action.

“The closure order has already given relief to other residents in the neighbourhood who have suffered considerably over the last four years.”
