Binance.US ceases USD trading amid regulatory action

The stoppage of dollar-based transactions considerably affects Binance.US’s ability to permit users to convert traditional currency into digital assets such as Bitcoin or Ether

Binance.US, the American subsidiary of the top global cryptocurrency exchange, recently announced that it would stop facilitating trading in U.S. dollars because of severed ties with its banking partners. This development is a result of heightened scrutiny from federal regulators.

The stoppage of dollar-based transactions considerably affects Binance.US’s ability to permit users to convert traditional currency into digital assets such as Bitcoin or Ether. In reaction, the firm has decided to transition into a crypto-only exchange.

As per Binance.US, recent communications from their banking partners hinted a reluctance to continue supporting dollar movements for the platform. This decision comes after legal action by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which accused Binance as well as Chief Executive Officer Changpeng Zhao of inappropriate handling of customer funds and providing incorrect information to regulatory authorities.

Moreover, the Securities and Exchange Commission sought consent from a Washington-based federal judge to freeze assets associated with U.S.-based clients using Binance services as they mentioned years-long violation concerns around the defendants’ conduct.

Thus far, Binance representatives have not responded on these developments publicly. The wider cryptocurrency sector has faced growing pressure since November when problems surfaced after the collapse of FTX exchange—a development that triggered widespread tumult across several platforms.

Apart from pursuing legal action against Binance earlier this week, Securities and Exchange Commission filed another case against Coinbase—the biggest American crypto exchange—further intensifying ongoing struggles within this sector. While some firms are taking steps towards challenging such clampdowns others are considering leaving US markets completely.

In a recent statement addressing client concerns amid aggressive approach by Securities and Exchange Commission officials., however, Binance.us reassured them that their assets are protected and backed by 1:1 reserves, ensuring the safety, security, and accessibility of customer funds.
