Technologist Andy Baio says he, by accident, found a version of Satoshi Nakamoto’s bitcoin white paper on his Apple Mac computer.
While attempting to fix my printer today, I found that a PDF version of Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin whitepaper seemingly shipped with each copy of macOS since Mojave in 2018, according to his April 5 blog post.
Baio stated he asked more than a dozen of his friends and fellow Mac users to verify, and the document was there for every single one, the file named “simpledoc.pdf.”
For those using macOS 10.14 or later, the document should right away open in Preview as a PDF file, Baio detailed.
The now-famous white paper, named “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”, was published in October, 2008 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. In the paper, the author lays out their theory for the fundamental process that power what is now the world’s biggest crypto currency in terms of market value.
Baio further stated that he discovered hardly any other proof online except for a single Twitter thread from November 2020, with a user posting similar screenshots.
He could not work out why, of all documents, the original bitcoin manifesto was selected to be included in Apple’s operating system.
Maybe, he wrote, it was just a suitable, lightweight multipage PDF for testing reasons, never intended to be seen by end users.
As for token itself, bitcoin is staying around $27,925 on Thursday, and has rallied 68 per cent so far this year. The crypto has seen around 24 per cent of those gains come in March amid wider banking crisis and uncertainty.
