Organisers are looking for community support to get the 2017 Illuminations Festival off the ground.
Wynnum Manly Events Incorporated is crowd-funding $25,000 (£20,000) for this year’s festival, expected to be held on June 17.
Group president David Saunders said they decided to crowd-fund the event because in the past it had been tough to attract sponsorship.
“We decided to take a different tack and go down the crowd-funding route,” Mr Saunders said.
“I think people will get on board and feel some ownership because individuals can say they helped make it possible.
“It’s a free family-friendly, safe event and we would love to see it continue.”
So far, people have donated more than $1600 (£1287.20) for the event, which will include twilight markets, a lantern parade, rides and fireworks.
The event was attended by more than 15,000 people last year.
