An Aberystwyth University graduate raises £320,000 in crowd funding for its self-driving vehicle

Autonomous self-driving vehicle on public roads for delivering retail products could be a reality soon as an Aberystwyth University graduate is planning. This self-driven vehicle will drastically reduce the cost of product delivery in the retail sector and bring it down by 98 per cent.

It is designed to deliver retail products using its advanced technology. The vehicle, Kar-Go, will deliver goods to retail customers in residential areas on unmarked roads without any human assistance. A crowd funding effort by William Sachiti, an Aberystwyth University graduate, has already raised £320,000. William said that that the money will be matched by “one of the largest tech companies in the world”.

William Sachiti has set up the Academy of Robotics at Aberystwyth University in 2015 while he was a student at the university.

The company’s team includes international award-winning and highly experienced world-level vehicle designers, roticists and scientists. It is confident that the vehicle would be the best autonomous delivery vehicle in the world.

The company has already received the legal requirements from the UK government’s Centre for Autonomous Vehicles for operating on public roads. It is working in partnership with UK car manufacturer Pilgrim.

William said:

“We have a stellar team who are excited to have begun working on what we believe will probably be the best autonomous delivery vehicle in the world.

“For instance, our multi-award-winning lead vehicle designer is part of the World Championship-winning Brabham Formula One design team, and also spent years as a design engineer at McLaren.

“We also have a team of PHD-level roboticists and scientists, and together, we are already working on Kar-Go at a Pilgrim Motorsports facility in Small Dole, West Sussex. We now also have over 300 shareholders.

“As a CEO, it is one of my primary duties to make sure Kar-Go remains a fantastic investment; this can only be achieved by our team producing spectacular results. We can’t wait to show the world what we produce.”
