All eyes will be focused Stateside and on the US non-farm payrolls, which are expected to reveal around 180,000 jobs have been created in August. Any out-performance will increase the odds of a September rate hike, analysts said.

The FTSE 100 was up 20 points to 6,769.

The top winner was Royal Bank of Scotland Group (LON:RBS) up 1.5% to 204p.

Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was the biggest loser down 2% to 3,589p.
