The photo and video-sharing app has unveiled Instagram Stories in its latest update – a slideshow feature that’s remarkably similar to the main draw of rival app Snapchat.
The new mode allows users to build up a ‘story’ of their last 24 hours, sharing a set of images and videos and overlaying them with text and graphics that their followers can watch and flick through.
`A ‘story’ disappears for good after 24 hours, and users can subscribe to stories from their friends.
An Instagram blog explains, “Instagram has always been a place to share the moments you want to remember. Now you can share your highlights and everything in between, too”.
While Instagram Stories is undeniably similar to Snapchat, the popular Snapchat filters feature, including face-swapping and the ‘dog filter’, has not yet been recreated by Instagram.
The move has left some users confused over what stories are, and which app they should be using.
Stories is now available in the latest Instagram update on iOS and Android, globally.
