From the start of 2022, Lucy Stapleton has taken up the leadership of PwC’s UK deals practice. Stapleton stated that she was ‘delighted’ to take on the role, at a ‘critical time for many of our clients as they continue to adapt to the way the pandemic is shaping the economic outlook.’

The new Head of Deals continued: Demand for our expertise remains strong particularly in areas such as transformation and ESG. Looking ahead, there is still pent up demand for deals and this will play a key role in the economic recovery with clients looking to us to solve their most pressing issues.

2021 was a record year for global M&A activity as firms attempted to pivot their businesses amid the challenges of the pandemic, and looked to boost their green credentials. Purchasing smaller firms with different capacities was seen as an ideal way to do both these things – and also resulted in buoyant demand for M&A consultants to help advise on such deals.

Due to this, PwC’s deals team itself enjoyed record-breaking deal activity over the last 12 months.

With those factors showing no signs of changing in the coming period, Stapleton takes up the position as Head of Deals with a remit to grow the department’s expertise.

She brings 25 years of experience to the role, having spent that time in PwC’s transactions services wing, and is committed to delivering our part in the global recovery, working alongside government, investors, and corporates, and ultimately unlocking value for shareholders, stakeholders, and wider society.

At the same time, Stapleton has moved to appoint a leadership team that further adds to this solid foundation of expertise. She has named Jonathon Land as Chief Operating Officer, Andrew McKechnie as Markets & Services leader, Claire Reid as Forensics Services Business Unit Leader and Mike Gibbons as Head of People for the deals line of service.

Beyond this, she has also moved to boost the company’s expertise by announcing a string of promotions in the department. The new equity partners include Asim Iqbal, Dan Bunyan, Chris Holden, Jamie Grigg, Mark Loring, Jeff Nye, Pragya Jain, Vince Powell, and Anthea Sizer.
