MetaMask rolls out PayPal ETH purchases to US users

Through the partnership, US users can now opt for PayPal as their payment method when purchasing ETH through MetaMask

Crypto wallet and decentralized application (DApp) provider MetaMask has begun rolling out Ether purchases via PayPal for users in the US — one of MetaMask’s largest markets. The firm claims to be the first Web3 wallet to offer Ether transactions via PayPal.

Through the partnership, US users can now opt for PayPal as their payment method when purchasing ETH through MetaMask. The merger also makes it possible to move ETH from PayPal to MetaMask.

The financial technology company collaborated with MetaMask parent firm ConsenSys last December, claiming the collaboration would permit users to buy crypto seamlessly and explore the Web3 ecosystem easily.

PayPal is joining a wide range of payment providers already integrated with MetaMask. In a quarterly report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the firm revealed a total of $943mln in crypto assets as of March 31, 2023, a 56 per cent surge from the earlier quarter, when the firm reported $604mln in crypto assets.

The new integration came just weeks after MetaMask declared a new feature permitting users to buy crypto with fiat currency right from its Portfolio DApp. Called “Buy Crypto,” the new feature allows users to buy a range of crypto currencies through different payment methods, including debit or credit cards and bank transfers.

More than 189 countries will be covered by the service, which supports over 90 crypto currencies across eight networks, including Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, BNB Smart Chain, Avalanche, Fantom, Optimis and Celo. For every purchase, the functionality takes into account the user’s location and local regulations to provide a customized quote.

MetaMask has been pushing for integrations and collaborations to extend its reach and offer on-ramps for its customers.
