Overall market sentiment was positive despite the U.S. CPI, released Wednesday, showing that U.S. inflation increased in August
Bitcoin gained in Thursday afternoon trade in Asia. Ether and all other leading non-stablecoin crypto currencies rose with Solana leading gains. Toncoin was the only token to post a loss during the last 24 hours. Overall market sentiment was positive despite the U.S. CPI, released Wednesday, showing that U.S. inflation increased in August.
Bitcoin gained 1.78% to $26,364, according to CoinMarketCap data. The world’s biggest crypto currency added 2.37% in the past seven days.
Ether added 2.3% to $1,623 but slid 0.73% on the week.
These positive sentiments came amid more regulatory battles in the US between regulatory bodies and those working in the field of crypto currencies and their various applications, said Samer Hasn, market analyst at XS.com.
The SEC imposed a fine of $1 million on the makers of Stoner Cats 2 NFT and its accompanying web series on charges of offering and selling unregistered securities as NFTs.
Stoner Cats 2 has accepted the regulator’s cease-and-desist order and agreed to the $1 million civil penalty.
A settlement to avoid a crushing SEC process without ‘admitting or denying’ anything is binding on no one. A cynic would call it a PR stunt. What matters is that when seriously challenged in court, the SEC continues to lose, Stuart Alderoty, CLO of Ripple, said on X (formerly Twitter).
Ripple is also fighting its own battle against the Securities and Exchange Commission. In July, a summary judgment by Judge Torres ruled that Ripple’s XRP sales to institutional investors breached securities laws, but sales on public exchanges to retail investors did not. However, the SEC submitted a filing last Friday that pushed the court of the Southern District of New York to appeal its ruling on SEC’s lawsuit against Ripple Labs.
The Securities and Exchange Commission requested the court evaluate its prior ruling by Judge Analisa Torres, which posed “knotty legal problems,” as per the filing.
Ripple’s XRP token added 1.23% to $0.4816, but dropped 3.72% in the past seven days.
Solana was the day’s biggest gainer, adding 5.02% to $18.81, but shed 3.86% on the week. Global payments giant Visa announced collaboration with Solana on September 5 to extend its USDC stablecoin settlement pilot to Solana’s blockchain.
