Travel chaos as huge fire breaks out near Clapham Junction

by Jonathan Adams

At around 9pm last night, a fire started in Caffe Nero’s coffee factory in an industrial estate close to the train line into Clapham Junction station.

Trains between Clapham Junction and London Victoria were cancelled on Wednesday night but services were resumed early this morning. However a spokesman for Southern Rail said that services will be running slowly and delays could continue this morning.

Passengers are advised to check the current situation before they travel.

Eight fire engines and around 100 firefighters tackled the flames yesterday evening. Police closed off surrounding roads and a helicopter was deployed.
