A failed train at Green Lane meant services were cancelled between Liverpool and Chester

Rail disruption in Merseyside for the second day continued the agony of commuters.

In another day of post-Easter travel gloom, Merseyrail announced a train had failed at Wirral’s Green Lane station.

This meant the 7.22am and 7.37am services from Chester to Liverpool were both cancelled.

And on the northern line, the 6.51am train from Hunts Cross to Southport was cancelled due to unspecified faults.

Wirral line services between Liverpool and Chester resumed at 7.52am.

Merseyrail said in a series of tweets, “Wirral Line services are disrupted due to a train failure at Green Lane. Updates will follow.

“The 0752 Chester to Liverpool and the 0813 Southport to Hunts X and 0921 from Hunts X to Southport are 3-cars only this morning.

“Good morning. Due to train faults the following services are currently cancelled. 0651 Hunts X to Southport and 0722 Chester to Liverpool.

“Due to a train failure the 0737 Chester to Liverpool is cancelled.”

The rail operator finally announced: “Wirral Line services are now resuming. The next departure from Chester will be 0752. Our apologies for the delays this morning.”

It comes after a failed train at Liverpool Central sparked train disruption for passengers returning to work after the Easter break.
