The SEC on Friday hinted it was unimpressed by the Bitcoin ETF applications by financial giants like Blackrock and Fidelity Investments, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal
Bitcoin traded little changed and Ether advanced on Monday morning, with prices of leading cryptocurrencies mixed. Solana gained further after a plunge that followed it being labelled a security by the U.S. SEC. Litecoin led gainers, still riding the hope of being included in the tokens trading on the Wall Street-backed EDX Markets exchange that opened on June 20.
Bitcoin gained 0.41 per cent to $30,730.25 during the past 24 hours, as per CoinMarketCap data. After a jump that followed a number of Bitcoin spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) applications in the closing weeks of June, bitcoin has lost direction, gaining just 0.61 per cent during the last seven days.
The SEC on Friday hinted it was unimpressed by the Bitcoin exchange-traded fund applications by financial giants like Blackrock and Fidelity Investments, as per a report by the Wall Street Journal.
Ether, the world’s second largest token in terms of market cap, gained 1.49 per cent to $1,954.67. It has advanced 2.65 per cent for the seven days.
Solana was among the advancers in mixed trading for other leading cryptocurrencies. The token added 5.48 per cent to $19.43 for a weekly increase of 14.47 per cent.
Solana is rallying after a number of bearish indicators last week, with Solana-based NFT protocol Cardinal announcing it was closing down, citing “macroeconomic challenges.” The Revolut neobank and crypto exchange also reportedly told U.S.-based users last Wednesday that it will delist Solana, together with Cardano and Polygon.
The three tokens were among cryptocurrencies that the Securities and Exchange Commission named as illegally issued financial securities in its lawsuit filed last month against the Coinbase and Binance.US exchanges.
Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum tweeted on Friday that the tokens do not deserve to be targeted. If ethereum ends up “winning” through all other blockchains getting kicked off exchanges, that is not an honourable way to win, and in the long term probably is not even a victory.
Litecoin led the advancers with a 6.37 per cent rise in the past 24 hours to $112.96. The token soared 27.98 per cent during the last seven days.
Litecoin, which was created in 2011 as a hard fork to Bitcoin, was one of the four tokens picked out to trade on the EDX Markets exchange, which is backed by Citadel Securities and Fidelity Investments. The other tokens include Bitcoin, Ether and Bitcoin Cash. EDX opened for business despite the clampdown on crypto from U.S. regulators.
